A third of the total heat loss in the house is through the doors and windows. This can be avoided in a few ways. First, you can weather-strip your windows using a special lining which you’ll insert at the center of the window and frame. You can also apply the weather-strip all around the perimeter of the doors to maintain a tight seal when you close them.
Secondly, you can seal the window cracks and edges using a rope caulk. If your windows have damaged wood, poorly fitted sashes, missing putty, or cracked glass, consider repairing or replacing them. All these will amount to saving energy.
